San Mamés

The San Mamés Stadium, also known as Nuevo San Mamés or San Mames Barria, is an all-seater football stadium located in Bilbao, Basque Country—the largest city proper and most populous area in northern Spain. The stadium replaced the old version of San Mamés as the home ground of La Liga’s Athletic Bilbao. This new version is equipped with a sophisticated lighting system on its exterior which can be manipulated to illuminate the panels on its facade in solid colors, an effective method to show support to Bilbao. Because of its modernized features, San Mamés was awarded as the Sports Building of the Year in the World Architecture Festival held in Singapore in 2015.
All La Liga home matches for Bilbao are held at the stadium, but its ground is also open for European Rugby Challenge Cup, UEFA Euro 2020, UEFA Champions League, and musical concerts.
