Esprit Arena

Esprit Arena

The Esprit Arena or the Merkur Spielarena arena is a multi-purpose football stadium in Düsseldorf, Germany. It was built to replace the former Rheinstadion at the same site near the river Rhine. As a modernized version of the old one, Esprit has a closable roof and a special heating system that allows the football grounds and seats to tolerate cold climate. It can safely host any game at the height of winter.

The home games of Fortuna Düsseldorf has been hosted by the Esprit Arena since its official opening. But the stadium’s doors are always open for international football matches, other sports events, and special occasions. From 2005 to 2007, the stadium accepted the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe as tenants; succeeding that, it started hosting music events, boxing world championships, and racing tournaments.
