The 2018/19 season marks the 27th of the Premier League since its introduction in 1992. The Premier League is the highest level of English football, with 20 teams engaging to be crowned English champions.

After planning the future of English football with authorities, players, and influential parties, the First Division clubs stepped down from the Football League in May 1992 and the Premier League was established with the campaign taking off on Saturday, August 15, of the same year.

Home to some of the most popular football clubs on the planet, the Premier League is the most watched league with 900 million viewers from 190 countries subscribing to the action.

The Premier League season happens from August to May, with the competition featuring teams playing home and away games, putting out a total of 380 matches between 20 teams. At the end of the season, teams that finish in the bottom three of the league table are relegated to the Championship, while the top three teams of the Championship league get promoted to the Premier League and fills in the three vacant spots via the end-of-season play-offs.

Teams receive three points for a win and one point for a draw. No points are awarded to a team for a loss. The league imposes a point system to determine the rankings. If any clubs finish with the same number of points, their standing in the Premier League table is determined through the following: goal difference is first, followed by the number of goals scored. However, if it still ends with an even score, they will be awarded the same position in the table.

Since the establishment of the Premier League in 1992, there have been six different winners: Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Blackburn Rovers, and Leicester City. Of all these teams, Manchester United possesses the most with 13 titles in 27 seasons so far.
