NFL Playoffs: How Is It Looking Right Now?

NFL Playoffs: How Is It Looking Right Now?

With just a month left in the NFL regular season, the playoff race intensifies in both the AFC and NFC. As it stands, the Rams are the first to secure their place in the postseason leaving just five spots up for grabs in the NFC.

Los Angeles locks down the NFC West but has their sights on the No. 1 seed. The Rams also gained a game on the Saints after the latter’s 10-game winning streak was ended by the Dallas Cowboys.

Currently, there’s a tight race in the AFC for a first-round bye. Both the Patriots and the Chiefs would get the two two AFC seeds if the postseason kicked off today. However, it’s still too early to tell with a month left in the 2018/19 NFL season.

A few results affected this week’s playoff standings. The Giants upset the Bears 30-17 in overtime, but the good news for the Bears is the Vikings also suffered a defeat to the Patriots. The Carolina Panthers lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which means Carolina has to make up for some ground to get one of the two open NFC Wild Card spots.

A look at the current NFL standings gives you a glimpse of the possible scenarios. Keep in mind that the top six teams in the AFC and NFC will move on to the postseason. The first six teams listed would make the playoffs if it started to day, while the L.A. Rams remain the only team to clinch a playoff birth:

  1. L.A. Rams
  2. New ORleans Saints
  3. Chicago Bears
  4. Dallas Cowboys
  5. Seattle Seahawks
  6. Washington Redskins
  7. Minnesota Vikings
  8. Carolina Panthers
  9. Philadelphia Eagles
