Liverpool & Chelsea Create History After Winning First Five Games

The Premier League creates history once again as two clubs enter Week 6 with five straight wins. For the first time in 110-years, Liverpool and Chelsea remain unbeaten after winning all five of their opening matches.

Three clubs went into Premier League Week 5 with a chance to write history, and we take a look at all the action from the record-breaking teams:

Totteham vs Liverpool (1-2)

The Spurs recently applied changes to the team that lost to Watford at Vicarage Road, and Hugo Lloris was the most notable absentee due to his error that cost the club.

Taking his spot is Michel Vorm, who had an indifferent game. Without him, Liverpool would have pulled away by five or six goals, but he was responsible for conceding the first goal and could have done much better for the second. The first goal came in the 39th minute courtesy of Wijnaldum, while the dagger to the heart was scored in the 54th minute by Roberto Firmino.

Tottenham were able to redeem themselves a bit, but it was too late. Eric Lamela sneaked in a 93rd-minute volley from a corner. Furthermore, a crunching tackle from Sadio Mane almost cost Liverpool the 3 points when he brought down Heung-min Son for a clear penalty. Luckily for the forward, he got away with the tackle, and seconds later the final whistle went off.

It’s the first time in Premier League history that Liverpool has closed Week 5 with five straight wins.

Chelsea vs Cardiff (4-1)

Cardiff City could have gotten ahead of the Blues within the opening ten minutes but Sol Bamba missed a golden opportunity after missing a header. However, the forward made amends in the 16th minute and rippled the net to give the Bluebirds the lead.

The other side of the pitch wasn’t happy as this only made Chelsea more hungry for goals. Then, in the 37th minute, Eden Hazard danced around a defender after receiving a pass from the Frenchman, Giroud. The Belgian powered the ball into the bottom of the net for the equalizer.

Chelsea started to widen the gap when Marcus Alonso found Pedro who then relayed it to a Giroud who found Hazard. Seven minutes after the Blues’ first goal, Hazard scored his second.
The 80th minute saw Hazard finishing his hat-trick from the penalty spot after Bamba brought down Willian, and the Brazilian closed the scoring three minutes later with a shot curling into the top corner.
