After a close call, Liverpool and Real Madrid were able to make it through the UEFA Champions League 2018 Semi-Final Leg 1 to head on to the final match in Kyiv. Madrid sealed their place with a close 4-3 aggregate victory against Bayern, while Liverpool survived the relentless Roma attack to win the Semi-Final 7-6 on aggregate.
The UEFA Champions League 2018 Final match will be held at Ukraine’s capital, NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium in Kyiv. The stadium also played host to the UEFA EURO 2012 final, which saw Italy and Spain battle for the title. With a capacity of 63,000, both Liverpool and Real Madrid fans are in for one of the biggest club football derbies of the year.
As we approach May 26, expect two storylines to unfold before you. First and foremost, the Real Madrid today continues to exhibit plenty of attacking urges thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s magic. Conversely, we are sure to see Liverpool’s Holy Trident tear through Real Madrid’s defense. This match is definitely going to display a handful of attempts as both teams are known for their offensive attributes.
Meanwhile, Zidane has never met neither Klopp nor Liverpool as Real Madrid’s head coach. However, Klopp already has a fair share of matches played against last year’s UEFA Champions League winners. Klopp and his former team Dortmund emerged victorious against the La Liga club in 2012/13 during the group stages, while Madrid extracted revenge in 2013/14 to knock out Dortmund out of the quarter-finals.
This time though, with a team on top of their game and a seemingly vulnerable Real Madrid side, Klopp can work his magic and win his first UEFA Champions League trophy with the Reds? Or will Real Madrid refuse to give up the throne and secure a fourth Champions League title in five years?
For the first time since 1981, Liverpool and Real Madrid will face one another in a European Cup final. Will the 37-year hiatus be worth the wait?
