Head Coach: Alvin Gentry
The New Orleans Pelicans were first established as the New Orleans Hornets. The franchise is based in New Orleans, Louisiana and is a member of the league’s Western Conference Southwest Division.
Due to the damage inflicted by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the team temporarily moved to Oklahoma City, where they spent two season as the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets. The team eventually moved back to New Orleans for the 2007/08 season. On January 2013, the Hornets announced that the team would rename itself as the Pelicans. All Charlotte Hornets’ achievements and records from 1988 to 2002 were returned to its original city to be used by the Charlotte Bobcats, which subsequently renamed to the Charlotte Hornets.
The franchise managed to qualify for the playoffs seven times in the 16 seasons of play since the original franchise moved from North Carolina, while the Louisiana franchise managed to hold a 610-686 record. In addition, the team also managed to win two playoff series and one division title.
