The Los Angeles Lakers are based in Los Angeles and compete in the league as a member of the Western Conference in the Pacific Division. The Lakers are known as one of the most successful franchises in NBA history and have 16 NBA championships behind them, the second-most after the Boston Celtics.
The franchise started in 1947 and first played as the Minneapolis Lakers. Originally a member of the NBL, where the team won the 1948 NBL championship before moving to the Basketball Association of American, where they would claim five championships. The team relocated to Los Angeles before the 1960/61 season after facing financial difficulties.
Among the achievements of the Lakers which includes 16 championships, 31 conference titles, and 23 division titles, the franchise also holds the record for NBA’s longest winning streak, winning 33 straight games during the 1971/72 season.
