Head Coach: Rick Carlisle
The Dallas Mavericks, or the Mavs, play in the NBA as part of the league’s Western Conference Southwest Division. The team is based in Dallas, Texas, and hosts home games at the American Airlines Center, which the franchise also shares with NHL team Dallas Stars.
In 1980, the Dallas Mavericks were established. However, like most expansion teams, the franchise had difficulties coping up in the first season. Dallas only posted its first winning season and gained entry to the playoffs in its fourth year, together with stars Mark Aguirre, Rolando Blackman, and Derek Harper. Since the Mavs entered the NBA 1980/81 season, the team have won three division titles in 1987, 2007, and 2010. They also have two conference championship titles won in 2006 and 2011, and one NBA championship title which they won against the Miami Heat in 2011 and considered to be one of the biggest upsets in the history of the NBA Finals.
