Head Coach: Kenny Atkinson
The Brooklyn Nets are based in the borough of Brooklyn, New York City and play in the NBA as a unit of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. The franchise was founded in 1967 as a charter of the NBA’s rival league, the American Basketball Association (ABA). Initially, the team played in New Jersey sporting the New Jersey Americans name during their first season, before relocating to Long Island in 1968 and renaming to the New York Nets. During the time, the Nets won two ABA championships in 1974 and 1976. After the ABA merged with the NBA, the Nets were absorbed into the NBA together with three other teams.
In 1977, the team headed back to New Jersey and played as the New Jersey Nets between 1977 to 2012 where they won two consecutive Eastern Conference championships in the 2001/02 and 2002/03 seasons. In the summer of 2012, the team moved to Barclays Center and renamed to the Brooklyn Nets.
