Head Coach: Javier Calleja
Villarreal Club de Fútbol, or Villarreal, was first founded as Villarreal CD on March 1923. The goal of the club was to promote all sports with heavy attention on football. On June 1923, Villarreal played their first game ever against Castellón. The club has a deep rivalry with CD Castellón and Valencia.
Villarreal first debuted in the La Liga after earning promotion on the 1997/98 campaign by finishing fourth in the Segunda A. Villarreal’s first La Liga match was against European champions Real Madrid, while their first home game was against Celta de Vigo. But the league proved to be too competitive for the club at the time and was later relegated to the second division for the 1990/00 season. However, Villarreal quickly made their way back to La Liga in the succeeding season. After dropping again to the second division on 2012, Villarreal was promoted back to La Liga for the 2013/14 season.
