Real Club Celta de Vigo, or Celta Vigo, is a Spanish professional football club stationed in Vigo, Galicia. The club is currently part of the 20 teams competing in the La Liga. It was founded on August 1923 following the joining of Real Vigo Sporting and Real Fortuna Football Club. Nicknamed “The Sky Blues,” the club is known for their sky blue shirts and socks paired with white shorts. Celta Vigo’s home grounds is the Abanca-Balaidos, which they occupied in 1928.
Celta has reached the Copa del Rey final three times but is yet to win the title. One of the team’s successful seasons was their 1970/71 campaign when the team finished an unbeaten streak at home and were coined the “Giant-Killers” due to their ability to beat stronger clubs. Celta finished sixth in the same season and qualified for the UEFA Cup for the first time. The club finished their best-ever season in 2002/03 when they finished fourth place and made them eligible to play in the 2003/04 UEFA Champions League.
