Club Atlético de Madrid, commonly referred to as Atlético Madrid, is a Madrid-based club that plays in the top-flight Spanish professional football league, the La Liga. Atlético was founded in April 1903 and has been playing in their traditional red and white stripes since 1911. Their main rivals are Real Madrid, whom they play the Madrid derby against.

The club is one of the most successful in Spain. Atlético has claimed the La Liga title on 10 occasions, along with a league and cup double in 1996. In addition, the club’s repertoire also features 10 Copa del Rey titles, two Supercopas de Espana, and one Copa Eva Duarte.

Looking at the larger picture, Atlético has also established itself after winning the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1962, and were runners-up in 1963 and 1986, Champions League runners-up in 1974, 2014 and 2016, won the Europa League in 2010, 2012 and 2018, and claimed the UEFA Super Cup title in 2010 and 2012.
