RasenBallsport Leipzig e.V., or RB Leipzig, is a German association football club based in Leipzig, Saxony. It is currently the youngest club competing in the Bundesliga–founded in 2009 by Red Bull GmbH who took over the playing rights of a fifth division side SSV Markranstädt, with a goal to reach the top-flight Bundesliga in only eight years.

The first year of competitive football for RB Leipzig was a success after dominating the NOFV-Oberliga Sud and was promoted to the Regionalliga Nord which is the fourth division. During the club’s 2012/13 season, RB Leipzig finished the year undefeated and was promoted to the 3. Liga then finished the 2014/13 3. Liga season as runners-up and advanced to the 2. Bundesliga. On 2016, RB Leipzig locked up a Bundesliga spot for the 2016/17 season. The following season, the club secured a place in the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League by finishing runners-up of the Bundesliga right after Bayern Munich.
