Head Coach: Michael Köllner
FC Nürnberg is a German association football club stationed in Nuremberg, Bavaria. The team is among the competing teams in the Bundesliga. Founded in 1900 by a group of young men, the team initially focused on playing rugby. However, after the first World War, the club slowly transitioned from rugby to football.
The club originally competed in the Southern German championship, securing their first title 16 years after the club’s formation. Following this, Nürnberg won their first German championship in 1920. FC Nürnberg added 11 regional championships to their name, which features the Oberliga Sud and seven German championships–all of which happened before the setting up of the Bundesliga in 1963. After the Bundesliga’s introduction, Nürnberg claimed one title along with four DFB-Pokal wins.
SpVgg Greuther Fürth is the club’s main rival, but matches against Bayern Munich are typically the biggest events of the season due to the former’s absence in the Bundesliga. Nürnberg and Bayern Munich are two of the most successful clubs in Bavaria, bringing the competition up a notch.
