The club is best known for its football club, currently part of the Bundesliga, the highest level of the German football league system. The club was established in 1899 and have achieved one German championship, five DFB-Pokals, and one UEFA Super Cup.
The ancestry of the side goes back to two football clubs inaugurated in 1899: Frankfurter Fußball-Club Viktoria von 1899 and Frankfurter Fußball-Club Kickers von 1899. The aforementioned teams merged in 1911 to become Frankfurter Fußball Verein, taking three league titles from 1912 to 1914 in the Nordkreis-Liga. Consequently, Frankfurter FV joined the gymnastics club Frankfurter Turngemeinde von 1861 to become TuS Eintracht Frankfurt von 1861 in 1920.
Eintracht continued to impress and became one of the original 16 teams chosen to play in the Bundesliga, Germany’s new professional league, introduced in 1963. The official club colors are red, black, and white.
